When XAware, a maker of a Java-based, graphical data integration tool, took the open source plunge with its eponymous product in November 2007, it did not do so to gussy itself up to be acquired. But the vibrancy of XAware's open source development and distribution effort and its growing customer base were undoubtedly key reasons why Sparxent, a relatively new company that seems to have been established to buy up IT companies last August, bought XAware last week. In its third recent transaction intended to enable tight integration of software applications for middle market customers Sparxent, Inc., a relatively new IT solution provider focused on that middle market, has announced it has signed a letter of intent to acquire XAware, Inc., a commercial open source company focused on developing real-time data integration solutions. Salt Lake City’s vSpring Capital may be a venture firm, but its largest-ever investment looks a lot like a buyout. The firm has backed Sparxent, a comprehensive IT provider, to enact an aggressive roll-up strategy that will increase its revenue run rate to $100 million over the next six months. This afternoon, [Sparxent] announced its third acquisition, XAware, a real-time data integration open source company. Prior to that, it acquired two companies called NetworkD Corporation and Arbyte Group.
